FYI: Toronto Hydro Capital Rebuild

Starting next month, Toronto Hydro will be rebuilding the underground electrical system in some areas of our Ward. Residents that will be affected should expect to receive the following letter from Toronto Hydro:

Dear Valued Customer,

Toronto Hydro is planning to rebuild a section of the underground electrical system in your neighbourhood. The project is scheduled to begin early next month. We are doing this to improve the electricity system reliability in your neighbourhood. The existing system is nearing the end of its life expectancy and so these projects will improve service and reliability and reduce the frequency of outages.

During the design stage of this project, we assessed your neighbourhood and identified where and how the new system will be upgraded. The electrical system is made up of underground cables and transformers, delivering electricity to the street and then to each home. Electricity is delivered via these cables to transformers in underground vaults.
The proposed work will involve the replacement of the existing electrical cables in front of or adjacent to the properties in your neighbourhood. Toronto Hydro and its contracted suppliers will take all reasonable care to protect the area during the construction of this project. We will repair and/or replace any damage to the area.

Please be advised that the proposed underground work has been discussed and approved by the property manager for your York Condominium Corporation. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the project, please feel free to contact me at 416-542-3366 or send an email to
rebuild@torontohydro.com. Our website is also being built and details about this project and photos will be available in the near future.

Sincerely,

Marina Leyderman

Changes to solid waste collection schedules starting week of August 7, 2007

To make garbage, recycling, green bin and yard waste collection more efficient, the City is making changes to the waste collection boundaries. This means that starting the week of August 7, 2007, your collection schedule may be changing if you receive City curbside collection.

All collection schedule changes are outlined in the new August 2007 – August 2008 Garbage, Recycling and Green Bin Collection Calendar. The calendar is now being delivered door-to-door across the City and delivery will be complete by the end of July.

When you receive your new calendar, turn to August 2007 (page 2) and look to the week of August 7 to confirm your collection day and the items to set out. Your collection schedule will not change unless a change is shown starting August 7. If your collection schedule is changing, help spread the word by sharing this information with your neighbours.

If you have any questions about your collection services and can’t find the answers in your calendar, visit
www.toronto.ca/recycle or contact Customer Service at 416-338-2010.

Updates: Leslie & Sheppard Construction

This is to inform you of the current status of the City contract from the Senior Project Engineer of the Leslie/Sheppard Construction:

- starting tonight night work will start to pave the intersection of Leslie/Sheppard. Grinding tonight followed by paving and pavement marking pre-marking tomorrow night and pavement marking Saturday night is scheduled. Zebra marking will be placed at the intersection crosswalks as per Transportation standard. These additional markings may require an additional night of work due to the amount of marking associated.

- the west of Leslie St. is almost complete except for landscaping and the railings at the stairs. This work should be complete in about 3 weeks time except for finishing work.

- the road work on the east side however is being delayed due to the presence of the sewer contractor working for the Developer, Concord Adex, If this contractor is not complete or vacated from the east side of Leslie St. by 7AM on Monday July 16/07 a further delay will result. Hopefully the developer and their contractor will co-operate with us so the City contract is not delayed. Marshall Macklin Monaghan (MMM) is attempting to resolve the conflict. A completion of mid-August is targetted provided the sewer contractor does not hold up the City's contractor.
